Dr. Akmal’s initial training was at the Aga Khan University which included elective training at UCLA Medical Center during her final year as a medical student. She was consistently rated as excellent to outstanding and was involved in a research project examining the prevalence of obesity in school children in Karachi. Her training in Internal Medicine was a St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Boston where she was described as an outstanding resident and exceptional physician. While at St. Elizabeth’s, she worked on a research project focused on the effect of bariatric surgery on obstructive sleep apnea associated with obesity. This work was presented and published online in the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Medicine.
As an Endocrinology Fellow, she has already demonstrated herself to be a capable physician in her command of medicine and practice of clinical endocrinology. We are very pleased to be working with her.
