Education / Recent Work

Dr. Ummaritchot’s (called “Three” by her friends) formal education was in Thailand at Mahidol Universisty in Bangkok, after which she functioned as a general practitioner at the Detudom Royal Crown Prince Community Hospital and Prachatipat Community Hospital.  She was accepted for a highly competitive pre-match position at the University of Hawaii and completed her training in Internal Medicine on 6/30/12.  As an Internal Medicine Resident, she was described as an intelligent, confident and efficient with exceptional medical knowledge, yet warm and personable, and was rated as Superior in the General Competencies of Patient Care, Medical Knowledge, Practice-based Learning and Improvement, Interpersonal and Communication Skills, Systems-based Practice and Professionalism by her Internal Medicine Residency program.  She has a particular interest in improving metabolic outcomes in patients with diabetes, and has participated in a NIH-funded research project to examine the effect of cognitive behavioral therapy and diabetes education/support in improving outcomes for Asians and Pacific Islanders.  She was offered a Chief Medical Resident position at the University of Hawaii, but she decided instead to accept our offer for subspecialty training in Endocrinology and Diabetes as a Friedman Fellow.  In addition to her maturity and apparent leadership qualities, as an Endocrinology Fellow, she has already shown herself to be bright and passionate about medicine and the care of patients, and has uniformly been rated in the high superior range in all categories on her biannual evaluation by the faculty. We were particularly impressed with her ESAP test score this year, well above the average score for first year Fellows and even exceeding the mean for second year Fellows.

In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Ummaritchot has been involved in the teaching of internal medicine residents and second year medical students, presented an abstract before The Endocrine Society in June, 2013 entitled “Long Term Treatment of Heterozygous Familial Hypercholesterolemia with the Statin/Ezetimibe Combination Prevents Heart Disease: A Case Report and Review of the Literature”, and was co-author on a manuscript accepted for publication in Anticancer Research entitled “Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumor with Ectopic Adrenocorticotropin Production: A Case Report and Review of Literature”.  She is currently participating in a research project to determine the risk of thyroid cancer in patients with the coalescent pattern of thyroid nodules as compared to patients with non-coalescent nodules.  She plans practicing in either an academic or outpatient care setting in the United States.
