In 2002 the Foundation named the Gerald J and Dorothy R Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University; in 2006 it established the Gerald J Friedman Diabetes Institute at Beth Israel Medical Center NYC; and in 2013 created The Gerald J Friedman International Institute for Lymphedema Research and Treatment, also at Beth Israel Medical Center NYC.

The first Friedman Fellows Symposium was held on Nov 14, 2008. Featuring 19 presentations, it coincided with the first anniversary of both the opening of the Friedman Diabetes Institute and the first UN sanctioned World Diabetes Day. Highlighted by a video greeting from President William Jefferson Clinton, the 2008 Symposium began with introductory remarks from Drs. Leonid Poretsky (Friedman Diabetes Institute / BIMC) and Ron Lechan (Tufts University School of Medicine) at the Tribeca Grand Hotel in NYC. The second Annual Friedman Fellows Symposium (2009) broke new ground in its ‘virtual’ format and marked the launch of this website. Since then, Symposia in 2010, 2011 & 2012 featured presentations and publications of both past and present Friedman Fellows, as well as work by internationally recognized guest-presenters.

We have great hope that this site will continue to develop, present and preserve the outstanding work of the Friedman Fellows, their colleagues and mentors, and serve as a platform for the exchange of opinions, innovation and support. Welcome to the Friedman Foundation Fellows website!
