Recent Work

Jamie received a Master’s Degree in 2009 from Tufts University Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy, with a concentration in Nutrition and specifically, in Nutritional Epidemiology. Following graduation, she was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to conduct research in Ecuador of her own design. Jamie spent over a year working in Ecuador to evaluate whether participation in Fair Trade was a predictor for improved food security of small Ecuadorian farmers. This experience prompted Jamie to shift her Ph.D. Focus from Nutritional Epidemiology to International Nutrition.

Currently, Jamie is a Ph.D. candidate in the Food Policy and Applied Nutrition program at Tufts University Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy and works with Dr. Beatrice Rogers on the Title II Food Aid Exit Strategies Study in Honduras. Her dissertation uses survey data from Uganda to explore how nutritional intake and environmental factors such as water, sanitation, and hygiene work together to influence linear growth in Ugandan children. She is particularly interested in the effect of domestic animal keeping on child height and whether this relationship is mediated by animal-source food consumption in resource poor areas.
