Recent Work

Johanna Y. Andrews Trevino is a doctoral candidate in the Food Policy and Applied Nutrition program at the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University.
 
Johanna currently works with Dr. Patrick Webb and Dr. Shibani Ghosh on the USAID-funded Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Nutrition project in mid-western Nepal called “Relationship between Maternal Exposure to Mycotoxins, Birth Outcomes and Stunting in Infants: A Birth Cohort Study in Nepal”. Her dissertation uses mixed methods to identify potential determinants of aflatoxin exposure in women during pregnancy and the effects of this toxic exposure on birth outcomes. 
 
Since joining the Friedman PhD program, she has been engaged in multiple research projects at the school and has served as a teaching assistant for various graduate level classes. Most notably, Johanna has worked as a quantitative research analyst for the Title II Food Aid Exit Strategies Study in Bolivia, a qualitative research analyst for the ChildObesity180 Strategy and as translator and research assistant for numerous National Institutes of Health (NIH) funded studies such as the GREEN Project Lunch Box Study and the Fueling Learning Through Exercise (FLEX) Study.

In 2011 Johanna completed her Master’s degree in Public Health Sciences with a specialization in health economics and health promotion at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden. Johanna received her BA from Rice University. During her undergraduate studies Johanna interned at Plan International and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in El Salvador. After graduation she worked as a research assistant on multiple studies at the USDA/ARS Children’s Nutrition Research Center in Houston, Texas - Gas Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometry Laboratory, Healthy Kids Houston Program and the Walking School Bus Program. Johanna was born and studied through High School in Honduras.
